During Homecoming and Family Weekend, Hun’s varsity field hockey team fought valiantly against the number one nationally ranked school and MAPL competitor, The Hill School. Despite the final score of 0-11 (and JV 0-7), dedication, determination, and hard work showed throughout the entire game.
“The Hun field hockey team worked hard and stayed tough during a match with the nationally-ranked Hill School team. Sophia Clark had a stellar game and stood out as one of the best players on the field. Credit also goes to our defensive unit who stayed strong together from the first whistle to the end of the game.” said Tracey Ardnt, the head coach of both the varsity and JV teams as well as a one-time Big 10 Freshman of the Year, Big 10 Player of the Year, and former member of the United States women’s national team.
“We kept our defensive lineup really good,” said Josie Domingo, a ninth grader and left-side defender for the JV team.
When asked about a positive aspect of the game, Nishka Gattu, a tenth grader and the JV team goalie said, “I think that we did really well at communicating.”
While Hun field hockey has unfortunately not qualified for the semifinals for MAPL, they will continue to play with HEART: honor, effort, attitude, respect, and trust. Together, they will strive for both improvement and excellence.
A special thanks goes to the graduating players: Postgraduate Sophia Clark, and twelfth graders Ruby Marcus, Phoebe Thielmann, Abigail Trawinski, and Farrah Fang for their indescribable contributions to the team. Brynn Shapiro ’26, Farrah Fang, and Nishka Gattu ’27, the three goalies, also played incredibly well. Being a goalie is difficult and stressful, but those three managed to keep calm and collected regardless. The team would also not have come this far without their amazing coaches: Coach Sheenan and Coach Arndt.
While this year’s season is now over, everyone on the team will continue to improve to ensure that Hun field hockey will come back even stronger next year.
The team may not have made it to the semifinals, but the most important thing is that they played hard, worked together, and had fun. Every single member of the team is better than they were two months ago, and the honor of playing the Homecoming game is large, no matter what the scoreboard said at the end.
Coach Arndt emphasized this truth, saying, “I am proud of everyone’s effort this Homecoming!”
